F1 Terminal Cross Sires
F.B.G. started the purebred Charolais herd in 1999, although we have made F1 bulls since 1996. hybrid vigor, a.d.g., feed efficiency, cutability, dressing percent, etc., are but a few of the reasons for the Charolais influence. "Smart" crossbreeding with the retention of the "cow-factory" that works best in their environment, allows commercial producers to achieve the "most" in pursuit of Yield Grade 1 & 2 cattle, with top efficiency, cutability, and not "screw" up the cow herd. "F.B.G. is stacking Charolais pedigrees in the same fashion as our Angus program, by using as many old proven bulls as possible for low birth weight, moderate growth, moderate frame, but with extra emphasis on marbling and ribeye. Charolais influence, when used correctly, can also be a benefit in the commercial cow herd. F1 Bulls have proven very popular for producing steers in volume that excel in Y.G. 1 & 2 and 85% Choice, plus leaving females that can work also. Proven genetics is what I learned in 1996, when I met you. We, at our farms, will no longer use Angus heifers or Charolais bulls that do not have proven genetics for both growth and carcass traits in their pedigree. We have several years of carcass data to prove that it works.
